Modern Farmhouse Pantry Inspiration
In a recent conversation with my mother- a woman of great practicality- she mentioned people having “silly things” in their house, or at least what she deemed unnecessary or exorbitant. I asked her what “silly things” she could see me having in my future house, and she said, “Well judging by what you have already, I’d say jars and cannisters, and baskets and boxes galore”. Indeed, I do love a good receptacle. So yes, I agreed, close enough. In my future house, some features I would insist on that others wouldn’t deem entirely essential would be a fireplace, a bathtub, a craft room and a walk-in pantry (filled with the aforementioned jars and baskets).
Though they’re growing in popularity, pantries- particularly walk-in pantries- aren’t common in Irish kitchens. And yet, they’re something I was always weirdly enamoured by. I used to see them in American movies, and in Pippa’s iconic house in ‘Home and Away’ and think; “Whoah, I’d love a little mini supermarket like that in my house! With enough food to feed all of the very many drop-ins Pippa’s home seemed to accommodate.”
The idea of having enough to feed guests probably ties in with my desire to host, but I also love the idea of having a stockpile of dried foods, condiments and baking ingredients to enable me to whip up a myriad of recipes and experiment in the kitchen. Add in my love of organising, mason jars and my hatred of crowded grocery stores, and having a well-stocked pantry really scratches all itches.
Here are some of my favourite pantry inspiration pics.
